Our Story

Eva Jessee is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Twisted Roots Healthcare. She is married to David. Together, they have combined their love for medicine and natural living to target a unique niche. As parents of six children, they know that a solid foundation for health is built at home. It is based on clean nutrition as well as sustained practices. Together, they work as a team to make sure that Twisted Roots Healthcare has one goal - improving patient outcomes and experiences.

Eva has over 300 college semester hours dedicated to studying the human body, illness and medicine. She attended East Tennessee State University for her Bachelor of Science / Registered Nurse degree and her Master's of Science degree. She is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She sees patients for Primary Care and Urgent Care at her clinic in Johnson City, Tennessee. 

Through the years, she has served as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for adults and pediatrics, a Medicolegal Death Investigator, college professor and held many nurse management roles. She has also served as the Tennessee President-Elect for the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and recently co-created the curriculum for the Postmortem Sexual Assault Nurse Examination for global certification.

  Eva is truly a scientist at heart. She believes that our bodies were created to heal themselves when treated well. She pours herself into research to ensure that everything implemented in the clinic is guideline oriented and research driven.

David is a licensed Residential /Commercial Home Inspector, general contractor & farmer. He can be found most days in the greenhouse covered up in soil & plants when not inspecting or working with a client on a project. He loves finding an excuse to ride around in his tractor & work outdoors.  

Together, they are enjoying life with their three teenage daughters. Their three adult children have married and all visit regularly since they also live nearby. They are proud Mimi & Pop Pop to three of the most amazing grandboys. In their free time, they love to play with all the animals on the farm, cook amazing meals & spend time with friends.

Kali Holt is the co-founder of Twisted Roots Healthcare. She is married to Taylor Holt & they are proud parents to two fur babies, Philomena & Deacon. 

Kali's college education traces back to 2013 when she enrolled into college to become a nurse. She achieved her Bachelor's of Science / Registered Nurse degree and began working in the field of Forensics. She began work as a medicolegal death investigator then went on to complete her training to work as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Alongside her mom, the two co-created the Postmortem Sexual Assault Nurse Examination for global certification for the International Association of Forensic Nursing. 

She is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and works in private practice with her mom, Eva Jessee at Twisted Roots Healthcare in Johnson City, Tennessee where she serves as a provider and Chief Executive Officer making sure the clinic runs smoothly.   

Taylor is the Strategy Manager at Twisted Roots Healthcare, overseeing the development and implementation of the operational systems that power our clinic, dispensary, lab and website.  He is the architect of our operations, the bridge between vision and execution, and a vital force in the growth and stability of Twisted Roots Healthcare.

His leadership does not just support our mission - it strengthens it.

Every clinic workflow, every digital tool, every seamless process that patients and staff rely on has Taylor’s fingerprints on it. His ability to turn ideas into functional, streamlined systems makes him an indispensable part of our team. He is steady, principled and deeply committed to the integrity of our mission and is the first to step in wherever he is needed. 

When not hard at work, these two love to travel & try out new restaurants. They are big history & science buffs, so they have plenty of fun places they have been. We could not do what we do without them. 

Kolbi Douglas is the operational anchor of Twisted Roots Healthcare - the person who ensures that every part of our clinic moves with purpose, integrity and unity.
 

As Practice Manager, Kolbi oversees the rhythm of the entire organization. He works closely with each department head to make sure our processes are efficient, our systems are compliant, and our standards remain high. His leadership is steady and principled; he is a moral plumbline in our practice, consistently modeling fairness, honesty, and ethical decision‑making.

Kolbi has a rare ability to balance big‑picture strategy with hands‑on teamwork. He’s just as comfortable reviewing regulatory updates or refining workflows as he is stepping into the trenches with our staff when the day gets busy. He leads by example — never asking anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself — and his willingness to “get his knees dirty” has earned him deep respect across every department.

His presence brings stability. His judgment brings clarity. His character brings trust. His job is to ensure that every wheel, every person, and every process stays aligned with our mission and our values.

Ashley is the welcoming heartbeat of Twisted Roots Healthcare - the first smile, the first voice and often the first reassurance our patients receive. 

As Front Office Manager, Ashley sets the tone for the entire patient experience. She greets every person who walks through our doors with warmth, professionalism, and genuine care. Her work ethic is unmatched; she manages check‑ins, schedules, patient questions, and the constant flow of front‑office activity with grace and calm.

Beyond her role at the front desk, Ashley also oversees our insurance billing — a complex, detail‑heavy responsibility that she handles with precision and dedication. She advocates for patients, helps them navigate confusing insurance processes, and ensures their care is supported from start to finish.

Ashley is the kind of person who notices the small things, remembers the details, and goes the extra mile without being asked. She brings heart to our operations and humanity to our systems. Her presence makes Twisted Roots Healthcare feel like a place where patients are not just cared for - they are valued and celebrated. 

When not in the clinic, they are parents to two of the most amazing boys. They spend their time away from the clinic chasing babies, doing home remodeling projects and enjoy traveling and all things outdoors.
